ABOUT US
About The Good Allotment Life
Hi, I’m Barry — a UK allotment grower based in the North East of England, with over 20 years of hands-on gardening experience.
Growing in the North East brings its own challenges — colder springs, heavier soils in some areas and slightly shorter growing windows than parts of the South. Over the years I’ve learned how to work with the seasons rather than against them.
The Good Allotment Life was created to share practical, honest advice about growing your own food in real UK conditions. I’ve grown in back gardens and on allotments, improved difficult soil, dealt with pests, experimented with crop rotation and learned what genuinely works.
Like many people, I started small — learning season by season. Some years were brilliant. Some were frustrating. All of them taught me something.
This site brings that experience together in one place.
